FATAL FIRE

A fire in a subdivision near Williamsburg killed one person Saturday, authorities said.

The fire started in the attached garage of the home in the Kingspoint subdivision, James City County Fire Department spokesman Robert S. Ryalls said. The victim and a car were in the garage, Ryalls said.

He said he could not say whether the victim was in the car. Ryalls said he did not know whether the car was running.

Smoke was heavy when firefighters arrived about 11:20 a.m. Saturday and the fire extended into the attic, causing heavy roof damage, fire officials said. The fire was under control by noon.

The name of the person killed is being withheld pending notification of the family. No one else was in the house, Ryalls said.

The James City County police and fire departments are investigating the blaze.
