WOMAN DIES

A Pennsylvania woman was killed early Saturday when she swerved to avoid debris on Interstate 64 and lost control of the vehicle she was driving. Her husband and daughter were hurt.

State police said Mary K. Bauer, 57, of Mineral Park, Pa., was heading east on I-64 when she attempted to avoid a tire on the highway at the interchange with Va. Route 199.

She lost control of the 1989 Jeep Cherokee she was driving and it struck the median and then hit an embankment. The vehicle rolled several times and she was ejected. She was then struck by the rolling vehicle.

Meanwhile, a trailer with a boat on it that she had been towing detached and rolled more than 200 feet down the highway before coming to rest on the roadside.

No other vhicles were involved.

State police said Bauer was not wearing a seat belt. Her 56-year-old husband and their 27-year-old daughter were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
