Charles C. ``Cherry'' Smaw of the 700 block of W. 37th St. died July 28, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Smaw was born in Aurora, N.C. He was a retired truck driver for Broudy-Kantor, was a Catholic, an Army veteran of World War II and the widower of Susie Smaw.
Survivors include three daughters, Susie L. Bell of Chesapeake and Patricia S. Jordan and Sandra J. Jennings, both of Virginia Beach; a son, William S. Spruill of Canada; two brothers, Edward O. Smaw Sr. of Chesapeake and James M. Smaw of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Jesse Smaw Winfield, Tony Smaw Bembery, both of Virginia Beach, Edwina Smaw Robinson, Edward O. Smaw Jr. and Clyde W. Smaw, all of Chesapeake; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Maggie Saunders Smaw and Elijah Smaw.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Anthony Moses. The remains will be ready for viewing at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. Wednesday for the processional. There will be a wake service from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home.
