EDNA M. MARKLAND

Edna Mae Matheson Markland, 80, of the 1600 block of Maycraft Road, a former teacher, died July 29, 1995, in Virginia Beach after a brief illness.

Mrs. Markland was born in Andrews, N.C., and was a former teacher at Andrews High School. She was a member of Baylake United Methodist Church; longtime member and past president of Thoroughgood Garden Club; recent member of Hermitage Garden Club; and was an accomplished seamstress and needlepoint expert.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert F. Markland; a sister, Hattie M. Sheets of Portsmouth; a host of nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Brenda Barksdale. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Matheson, two sisters, Mary M. Collins and Vina M. Moore and her parents, William Lee and Mattie Lovingood Matheson.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by the Rev. Ted E. David. Burial will be in Valleytown Cemetery, Andrews, N.C. The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made to Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad. Her body will be sent to Ivey Funeral Home, Andrews, N.C., for services and burial on Thursday.
