John Edward ``Big Daddy'' Eure, 74, of the 200 block of Cherokee Road, died Saturday, July 29, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Eure was a native of Roduco, N.C., and was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as police captain and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Lillian Juanita Eure; four daughters, Carol L. Hughes and her husband Danny, Diane L. Carr and her husband George, Bonnie R. Holland and her husband Allen and Janet L. Jones and her husband B.J., all of Portsmouth; a son, Wayne E. Eure and his wife Paula of Portsmouth; four sisters, Marie E. Swain of Portsmouth, Dorothy E. Edwards of Chesapeake, Joan E. Blythe of Eure, N.C., and Joyce E. Brunson of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; a brother, Lloyd T. Eure of Portsmouth; and nine grandchildren, Stephanie L. Daniels, Heather D. Eure, Lori A. Carr, Crystal L. Carr, Kimberly R. Holland, John A. Holland, Bennie G. Jones Jr., Amanda N. Hughes and Daniel W. Hughes.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and also at other times at 1 Windy Pine Court in the Churchland section of Portsmouth. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
