THOMAS E. DUDLEY

Thomas Edward Dudley, 71, of 1312 Augusta Ave., Bluefield, died Thursday, July 27, 1995, at his home, of a massive heart attack.

He was a son of the late James Shelby and Jewel Jarrett Dudley, pioneer residents of Bluefield, Va. He attended public schools in Bluefield, Va., where he starred in basketball and football and was elected valedictorian of his class. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he was a star athlete, a member of many honor societies and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

During World War II, Mr. Dudley became an officer in the Army Air Corps, serving as a pilot attached to the Pacific Troop Carrier Command.

Mr. Dudley had a long career with U.S. Champion Industries, (U.S. Plyweed), from which he retired in 1977 to enter the restaurant business in Virginia Beach. He returned to Bluefield in 1988.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Dudley Fleming.

Survivors include, brothers Bill Dudley of Lynchburg, Va., and Jim Dudley of Atlanta, Ga.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Memorial Baptist Church in Bluefield, Va., with the Rev. Hugh Cole and the Rev. Ken Frazier officiating. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery at Bluefield, Va.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Dudley Memorial Baptist Church, Bluefield, Va. Any gifts may be sent to Memorial Baptist Church, Bluefield, Va., or to a charity of one's choice.
