Surfcasters along the northern beaches caught small bottom fish, a few small bluefish and an occasional keeper flounder over the weekend.
Spot, croaker and a few trout were landed around Oregon Inlet. Good catches of sheepshead were reported from around the bridge pilings.
Lots of small croaker, spot and a few mullet were taken along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.
Spanish mackerel and bluefish were beached just after sunrise and just before sunset at Cape Point. Bottom fish, small blues and a few pompano were taken during the day.
Trout and croaker have been landed from the surf in the Hatteras Inlet area at night. Spanish mackerel and bluefish were landed in the area Sunday morning, and some small bottom fish were landed during the day.
Pier fishing along the Outer Banks was mediocre over the weekend.
A few small bottom fish were landed on Kitty Hawk Pier. Some trout were taken inshore from the south side of the pier late Sunday.
A few spot and croaker were landed on Avalon Pier. Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught small spot, croaker, a few small bluefish and a couple of flounder.
Jennette's Pier reported scattered spot and croaker landed, as did Outer Banks Pier.
South of Oregon Inlet, fishermen on Rodanthe Pier caught mainly croaker. Small bottom fish were landed on Avon Pier.
Frisco Pier reported spot, croaker and a 3-pound Spanish mackerel taken Saturday. Spot, croaker, small bluefish and a few keeper flounder were landed Sunday.
Piers reported some spot, croaker, mullet and a few flounder taken Monday.
Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet has been slow, with only a handful of small bluefish and Spanish mackerel taken.
Headboats reported good catches of croaker Saturday morning, but slow fishing during the afternoon. Headboat fishing was good Monday morning with plenty of croaker decked. The headboats remain at the dock on Sundays.
Fairly good catches of dolphin were reported by the Oregon Inlet fleet over the weekend. School dolphin were spotted on grass lines as close as 10 miles off the beach Saturday.
Tuna fishing was slow, as was billfish action. Several billfish were released northeast of Oregon Inlet Sunday, including a blue marlin and a sailfish by the Pelican, and two white marlin and a sailfish by the Surfside.
Dolphin fishing improved off Hatteras Island, with some fairly good catches reported. Most of the fish were bailers. A few wahoo were landed, but tuna were scarce. A blue marlin was released by the Bullfrog and a white marlin by the Fin Fantasy on Saturday. Fair numbers of billfish were released Sunday, including four white marlin by the Citation.
Fairly light winds and improved water clarity should produce some speckled trout action along the beach in the Kitty Hawk area.
