The final week of qualifying in Dare County municipal races began briskly Monday with five new candidates filing for the November election.
Qualifying ends at noon Friday.
In Kill Devil Hills, Mayor Pro Tem Duncan Wright said he will run against incumbent Terry Gray for the mayor's seat. Also, Nags Head Police Detective Rex Meads has declared his intent to run for a seat on the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners, as have Jackie Lee Harris and Jeffrey D. Shields.
In Manteo, Commissioner Lee Tugwell filed qualifying papers to run for mayor. He will face former mayor John Wilson IV.
