Mamie Lee Downing, 76, of 433 Fernwood Farms Road, died July 28, 1995.
Mrs. Downing was a housewife. She was a member and mother of Philippians Church of Christ Holy Disciples.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Melvin Downing Sr. of Chesapeake; two daughters, Naomi Coval of Baltimore, Md., and Bonnie Sawyer of Camden, N.C.; seven sons, Melvin Jr. of Montreal, Canada, Edward Sr. of Wichita Falls, Texas, Joseph Sr. of Chesapeake, Elmore of Huntsville, Ala., Samuel of Virginia Beach, Emmitt of Chesapeake and Charles of Norfolk; two sisters, Dr. Helen Goodwin of Baltimore and Dr. Flora Blanchard of Norfolk; 27 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m Thursday, August 3, 1995, by Elder Mary Woodhouse in Cathedral of Faith COGIC. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. A wake service will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. in Philippians Church of Christ Holy Disciples. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home handling arrangements.
