JOHN E. GIBBS

John Edward Gibbs, 69, of 99 Oliver St., died Monday, July 31, 1995, at his residence.

He was a native of Norfolk, Va., and a former resident of Virginia Beach. He was a real estate land developer and a builder. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episocopal Church in Hertford, N.C., a former member of the Kempsville Masonic Lodge (NU)196 A.F. & A.M., and a Merchant Marine.

Mr. Gibbs was the son of the late Elbert and Mildred A. Owens Gibbs, and the husband of Ottilie Wendler Gibbs of the home.

Besides his wife, Mr. Gibbs is survived by a daughter and two sons, Caroline Z. Haley, John E. Gibbs Jr. and Daniel D. Gibbs, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Elbert Gibbs Jr. of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake, Va. Burial will follow. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, N.C., is handling the arrangements. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
