ERNEST H. STEPHENSON

Ernest Haywood Stephenson, 92, of 908 Virginia Ave., died Aug. 1, 1995.

A native of Seaboard, N.C., he was the son of the late James B. and Roberta Jordan Stephenson. He had retired from Standard Brands-Planters as a purchasing agent after 44 years, and then served as manager of the Planters Peanut Store for 15 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a life deacon, former treasurer for 20 years, former superintendent of the adult department and was building committee chairman for the main sanctuary.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Rawles Jones Stephenson; two daughters, Becky S. Van Brackle of Richmond and Peggy S. Stone of Virginia Beach; a son, Ernest H. Stephenson Jr. of Richmond; a sister, Elma S. Jones of Seaboard, N.C.; a brother, Marvin R. Stephenson of Suffolk; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will be at their home. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 237 N. Main St., Suffolk, Va. 23434, or to a charity of choice. R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
