Remember Evelyn T. Butts, the late, longtime, civil-rights leader in the black community whose positions included head of Concerned Citizens of Norfolk?
Well, she now has her own street. In response to pushing by several councilmen, particularly Herbert Collins, Elm Street off Little Creek Road was renamed Evelyn T. Butts Avenue.
At Collins' insistence, the ``T.'' was included. The T stands for Thomas. Originally, the ordinance was simply to name the street ``Evelyn Butts Avenue.''
