WE'VE ALL heard of the Boston Tea Party but did you know about the Edenton Tea Party?
In 1774 the women of Edenton, N.C., signed a proclamation stating they would no longer use British tea. It's said to be the earliest recorded political activity by Colonial women.
Such glimpses of history and early American cuisine make ``Take the Tour for a Taste of Colonial Edenton'' more enlightening than some church cookbooks. Written and edited by the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Women, ``Take the Tour'' (the Wimmer Companies Inc., 1995) combines local history with many elegant but easy recipes.
