LOUISE B. HARRIS

Louise Bailey Harris, of the 1600 block of Meadow Country Road, died Monday, July 31, 1995, in a Greenville, N.C., hospital.

A native of Courtland, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Bailey and Willie Nichols Bailey. She was the widow of Alexander Harris Sr. and was a retired teaching assistant for the Suffolk Public Schools and formerly operated the Tidewater Day Care Center in Whaleyville.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild, coordinated the SHARE program, and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women. She was also a member of the SEAVAMP Senior Citizens Club and taught line dancing at the Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Alexis Harris Snead of Greenville, N.C., and Mrs. Donna M. Colander of Portsmouth; three sons, Ulysses Harris of Richmond, Alfonzo Harris of Gates, N.C., and Alexander Harris Jr., of Takasaki, Japan; four sisters, Beatrice Brown, Gracie Turner, and Rena Mae Turner, all of Franklin, and Shirley Taylor of Suffolk; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Harris of Gates, N.C.; two sons-in-law, Obadiah Colander of Portsmouth and Victor Snead of Greenville; a devoted friend, Miss Mayumi Asakura of Shizvoka, Japan; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no viewing of the body. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
