WOMAN CHARGED IN STABBING

A woman who initially blamed the fatal stabbing of her live-in boyfriend on an unknown black man has herself been charged with the crime, police said.

Detectives early Wednesday arrested Carol Nancy Sturgis, 43, who also goes by the name Nancy Carol Jacobs. She is accused of stabbing 56-year-old Charles R. Jones on Tuesday at the duplex they rented in the 200 block of Sykes Ave.

The couple, who are white, live in a predominantly black neighborhood a few blocks off Virginia Beach Boulevard in the Oceana section. When police arrived at their residence Tuesday afternoon, Sturgis told them a 6-foot black man argued with Jones and then stabbed him.

Jones was found dead near the side entrance of the duplex.

Police questioned Sturgis after the homicide, and later charged her with second-degree murder. Police spokesman Mike Carey said investigators haven't determined a firm motive.

Sturgis was held without bail in the city jail.
