SOCIAL WORKER ATTACKED

A 29-year-old social services employee was attacked by a client who became angry about paying child support, police reported Wednesday.

Police did not identify the victim or the suspect, who was not arrested because the incident was classified as a misdemeanor, said Jimmy Ennis, a police spokesman.

Police advised the employee, who Tuesday morning was struck with a metal pipe, kicked and punched, to seek warrants against the man for assault and battery and for destruction of property, Ennis said

During an interview at about 10:40 a.m., the client told the employee of the Division of Child Support Enforcement that he was a Vietnam veteran and that the ``whole system was against him,'' Ennis said.

The man struck the employee with a metal pipe, causing her to fall to the floor. He punched her face and kicked her legs, a witness told police.

The man was about to swing the pipe at the employee again when another witness intervened, Ennis said.

Ennis said he did not know where the man got the pipe.

The man threw the pipe, which became wedged into a wall, before leaving the building on the 2400 block of Airline Blvd., Ennis said.

The employee, whose injuries did not appear to be serious, was not transported to a hospital after the incident, Ennis said.

She had not sought the warrants as of Wednesday afternoon, Ennis said.
