Regarding ``Does silence mean brutality is expected, accepted among us?'' (column, July 27): Was staff writer Charlise Lylestargeting African Americans, the Hampton Roads community in general or the Portsmouth Police Department for the unsolved 4-year-old murder of Janice Lee?
As I recall, it was suspected that the murder occurred in Chesapeake and the body was found at the regional trash plant in Portsmouth. This was a bit unusual, because most bodies are dumped in Chesapeake because the criminals know how many crimes are unsolved in this city.,
As far as the reference to scholarship funds, posters and billboards in Janice Lee's behalf, these have to be initiated by caring people. Since Janice was a newspaper employee, why has the paper not done this?
I know of no other branch of the media in a better position to do so. Your paper reaches more people in the Hampton Roads area than any other form of news reporting.
