TIDES WILL PLAY 2 TODAY AFTER RAINOUT

The Norfolk Tides' game against the Toledo Mud Hens at Skeldon Stadium was rained out Thursday night.

The two teams will play a doubleheader today scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Phil Stidham, who has made 224 relief appearances in his five-year career, will have to wait one more game. Norfolk manager Toby Harrah said he will go with Chris Roberts (6-9) in the first game while Stidham (2-1) will start the second game.

Stidham was scheduled to start Thursday's game.

``Chris is a starter and he has a regular rotation,'' Harrah said. ``Phil is an experienced reliever and sitting won't bother him that much.''

The Mud Hens will start Mickey Weston (9-6) in the first game and Kent Bottenfield (3-7) in the second game.

Toledo and Norfolk are heading in opposite directions in the IL West race. The Tides have won five in a row and have a 12-game division lead.

The Mud Hens have lost five in a row and are four games behind Richmond, two behind Columbus for a playoff spot.

NOTES: The rainout was Norfolk's first since the Tides were rained out at Harbor Park against Pawtucket on May 2. ... If they sweep today, the Tides would tie their longest winning streak of the season at seven games for the third time. The Tides won seven straight games between May 10-16 and June 27-July 4. ... The Tides are hitting .291 with runners in scoring position. by CNB
