Regarding ``It's not about abortion'' (editorial, July 26) regarding defunding family planning:
Remember last November? We want less federal government, and this is a good start.
According to the Census Bureau and recent history, the liberal family-planning programs are failures. Prior to the 1960s, society did a very good job of keeping illegitimate-birth rates low. Must have been all that preaching that you say didn't work. Society did very well without federal government help!
Yes, humans will engage in sex. But, unlike animals, we can be taught responsibility. As long as people know Uncle Sam (a.k.a. the American taxpayer) will pick up the tab for their mistakes, why should they behave responsibly?
Life is precious, not convenient. Most of us understand this.
