Drewey Theron Sawyer, 87, died Aug. 2, 1995, at his son's home in Hillsborough, N.C., after a period of declining health.
Mr. Sawyer was born in Lowlands, N.C., and was a resident of Norfolk until 1991. He was the widower of Frances Brinkley Sawyer and the son of the late Calvin and Louise Spencer Sawyer of Bayboro, N.C.
Mr. Sawyer was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Consolidation Coal Company after 38 years of service. He was also a past president of the Hampton Roads Coal Association.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William T. and Lynda Reed Sawyer and 4 grandchildren, Frances, Spencer, Deborah and Sarah Sawyer, all of Hillsborough, N.C.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
