Earl Bryan King, 98, oldest living resident of Tangier Island, died Thursday, August 3, 1995, in the Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield of respiratory failure.
King was born on Tangier Island December 20, 1896, son of the late Addison and Susan Crockett King. His wife of 75 years, Euna Irene King, died last March 16th. He was a World War I veteran of the U.S. Army. For over 30 years he was a lighthouse keeper with the U.S. Coast Guard at various locations on Chesapeake Bay. He was a member of the Swain Memorial United Church on Tangier, a member of the Tangier Post VFW and was a former member of the former Owls Lodge of Tangier.
He is survived by the following children: Bryan King, Tangier; Minnie Crockett and Lillian Everett, both of Chesapeake; Helen Wallace, Baltimore; Naomi Brancato, Long Island, N.Y.; and Faye Monk, Crisfield; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive. A son, Erwin Bryan King, died in 1939.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Swain Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Wade Creedle will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park, near Crisfield, Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
Friends may call at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, Crisfield, Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. or at the Benson Memorial Building, Tangier, after 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
