The Full Circle: AIDS Hospice Support organization is sponsoring a string of dinner parties on Sept. 23 to raise money for its terminally ill clients.
The group is recruiting local residents to be hosts for the fundraiser parties, called ``Dinner is Served.'' The parties will range from barbecues to formal dinners. Guests will be asked to make donations.
Full Circle will coordinate the parties and invitations and will hold an after-dinner finale at Stockley Gardens in Norfolk with coffee, dessert and music from the Connie Parker Jazz Trio.
``Our caseload is growing, and we need to help those who are in the final stage of life because of AIDS,'' said Marty Mendelsohn, Full Circle executive director.
``AIDS is still a controversial topic for some people. . . . This is a fun and nonthreatening way to support our clients.''
Full Circle was founded in 1992 by the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia to meet the needs of homebound and institutionalized AIDS patients.
This year, Full Circle has supported about 70 clients, delivered more than 4,500 donated meals and provided about 30 volunteer buddies for clients without families and friends to offer support.
``I can't think of anything worse than dying alone,'' Mendelsohn said. ``We provide support so that that doesn't take place.''
Last year's ``Dinner is Served'' raised more than $20,000 from 20 parties. This year Full Circle hopes to double both.
