Dare County's municipal elections Nov. 7 will feature one of the largest fields in recent history, the county's director of elections said Friday.
Qualifying in municipal races ended at noon Friday.
``This is not the largest field we've ever had, but it's been a heavy turnout,'' said Lynda Midgett, director of elections for the county.
Manteo, the county seat, drew the most candidates. Nine people filed in the race for the town board of commissioners. Former Mayor John Wilson IV and Commissioner Lee Tugwell will vie for the mayor's job.
In Kill Devil Hills, eight candidates are in the commission race. Incumbent Mayor Terry Gray will face Mayor Pro Tempore Duncan Wright for the town's top elective office.
Five candidates are on the ballot for the Nags Head commission race, while four are seeking election to the Southern Shores Town Council.
In Kitty Hawk, incumbents Carl Parrott and Clifton Perry are unopposed in the race for their seats. MEMO: THE RACES
