A YAHOO FOR WAHOO IN WATERS OFF OREGON INLET

Dolphin fishing was good in the Gulf Stream off Oregon Inlet Friday. Fair numbers of wahoo and a few tuna were taken.

The Oregon Inlet and Pirates Cove fleets released more than 20 billfish, including two sailfish and a white marlin by the Obsession, and a white marlin by the Phideaux.

Dolphin fishing was excellent off Hatteras Island. Big bailers and a few gaffers were abundant. A few wahoo were taken, but billfish were scarce.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was fairly good for Spanish mackerel Friday morning, but slow during the afternoon. The Sinbad, out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, caught its limit of drum during the morning east of the inlet.

Headboats operating around the inlet reported good catches of croaker on morning and afternoon trips.

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was slow Friday.

A few small bottom fish were taken on Kitty Hawk Pier. Anglers on Avalon Pier caught several bluefish during the morning.

Nags Head Pier reported some small spot, croaker, sea mullet and bluefish landed. A handful of spot and croaker were taken at Jennette's Pier.

Some small bottom fish were taken on Outer Banks Pier in the morning. A good run of decent-sized spot developed around midday, but it was short-lived.

South of Oregon Inlet, anglers on Rodanthe Pier caught some spot and croaker.

Bottom fish, some trout and Spanish mackerel up to 2 1/2 pounds were taken on Avon Pier. Spot, croaker and small blues were taken on Frisco Pier.

Spot, croaker, a few mullet and flounder were taken by surf fisherman from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. Some bottom fish were landed around Oregon Inlet. Anglers fishing off the catwalk on the Oregon Inlet bridge caught spot, croaker and pigfish.

At Ramp 27, south of Rodanthe, some 1- to 2-pound speckled trout were taken on shrimp. Some sea mullet, spot and croaker were taken along the beach from Rodante to Buxton.

Fishing was slow at Cape Point, with a few Spanish mackerel and small bottom fish beached. Small bluefish and a few keeper flounder were taken in the Hatteras Inlet area.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier at Duck was 68 degrees Friday. by CNB
