Local Jaycees are teaming up with K mart stores in an effort to locate missing children.
The KidCare Photo ID event is part of a national effort by the Jaycees to provide authorities with the tools they'll need in cases of missing or exploited children and to educate parents about the steps they can take to help protect children.
``In cases of runaways or kidnappings, a lot of times parents don't have an unobstructed picture or recent picture of their child to help the police,'' said Susan Acken, publicity officer for the local Jaycees chapter.
``A proper photograph is probably one of the most important tools authorities need when looking for a missing child. Fingerprints can help identify, but rarely assist in locating a child that's missing,'' Acken added.
In addition to the photographs, children will be weighed and measured.
``The information will be put into a booklet for the parents to keep in case of an emergency,'' said Acken.
The Jaycees suggest that parents update the information in the booklet periodically adding any information on physical changes such as a missing front tooth or a weight gain or loss.
The KidCare Photo ID event is free and will take place Sunday, Aug. 6, from noon to 3 p.m at area K mart stores.
