CLINTON WRONG ON BOSNIA

Regarding ``Senate says: Allow arms for Bosnia'' (news, July 27): I am completely frustrated with the lack of nerve within the White House.

Using strategies of hysteria and disinformation, President Clinton and his staff are unsuccessfully trying to move the fault for three years of forced bloodshed on the Bosnian Muslims away from the White House lawn onto the steps of Congress.

The president states that he is afraid of increasing the scope of the conflict in that region once the embargo is lifted. What of the moral question we as a nation should ask ourselves, ``Do we have the right to impede a country from defending itself against an aggressor?''

If this nation had stopped Britain from defending itself with an arms embargo at the onset of the World War II, this world may have been a very different place.

America has never been in the business of obstructing other nations' right to self-defense.

It appears that President Clinton has not learned that America once stood for liberty and freedom; never to run in the face of battle or offer empty threats and unfulfilled promises.

This country must regain its once-respected position in the world and that will only happen when the backbone of the executive branch is restored.
