WE NEED YOUR HELP

ILLUSTRATION: A recent national study on adolescent and adult attitudes

about drug, alcohol and tobacco use turned up some not-unexpected

findings:

Respondents think drug use is the No. 1 threat to kids

Half of our kids are at risk of substance abuse; by 11th and 12th

grades, that figure is two-thirds.

It also found that no demographic characteristic, other than

school grade, can predict the risk of drug use. Even family

structure and involvement in school activities and sports are only

weakly related to drug use.

These are scary findings. What's a parent to do? How can you

ensure your kid stays drug-free?

We'd like to gather about a dozen parents (and their kids, if

they're interested) to talk about their perceptions of the dangers

facing their kids, and how they try to cope.

If you're interested in participating, call Debra Gordon at

446-2621 and leave your name and daytime phone number. She'll call

you back.
