Johnnie Arther Babb, 63, of the 2200 block of Abby Road, died Aug. 5, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mr. Babb was born in Conwal, N.Y., and was retired from T.R.T. as a bus operator after 34 years. He was a member of Norview Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was also a member of A.T.U. Local (NU)1177, Board of T.R.T. Credit Union committee and president of the T.R.T. Retirees. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie M. Babb; two daughters, Joyce Hope Umstot of Virginia Beach and Cathy Lynn Vick of Chesapeake; a son, Johnnie J. Babb of California; two sisters, Virginia Michael of West Virginia and Hazel Lawrence of North Carolina; two brothers, Clayton Babb and Melvin Babb of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren, James Wesley Powers III, Travis A. Umstot and Timothy Umstot, all of Virginia Beach, Angela Marie Vick, Amanda Bethany and Andrew Christian, all of Chesapeake, Ashley Ann, Lonie Lee, Justin Michael and Chelsea Adelaida Babb, all of California; and one great-grandchild, Brandon Powers. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Ann Babb, and his parents, Claude and Maggie Babb.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Norview Baptist Church by the Rev. James A. Bradshaw. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Norview Baptist Church.
