Charles Owen Howerton, 61, of Story's Lane, died Aug. 6, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.
He was born in South Boston, and was formerly of Emporia. He had retired as an automobile body and fender mechanic. He was a member of Delaware Hunt Club and Franklin Moose Lodge (NU)1573.
Survivors include one daughter, Trena S. Howerton of North Carolina; two sons, Larry Howerton and Charles Edward Howerton, his mother, Mary Vaughan James, all of Emporia; two brothers, Robert Howerton of Emporia, and Thomas Howerton of Richmond; two grandchildren, Angela C. Davis of Charlotte, N.C. and Thomas Wayne Howerton of Emporia; companion, Grace Lanier of Franklin. Mr. Howerton was predeceased by his father, Robert J. Howerton, and his son, Charles O. Howerton Jr.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin. The burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. A visitation will be in the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
