On June 22 I attended the performance of Anita Baker and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly at the Hampton Jazz Festival. Both entertainers were fantastic, and the audience appeared to enjoy the performance. The following morning, I read the review by staff writer Ricky Wright and took it as an insult.
I concur with the depiction of Anita Baker's performance, but to label Maze as a ``nominal support act'' was both inaccurate and offensive.
The audience was dancing and singing along, which by most standards indicates enjoyment. I do not think one gets gold or platinum albums by being nominal. Maze could have drawn the same crowd on its name alone.
