RAYMOND E. MCGRATH

Raymond Eugene McGrath, 68, a native of Chicago, and a 16-year resident of Newport News, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 1995, while on vacation in Alaska with his wife.

He attended Little Flower grade school and Leo High School in Chicago. While attending the University of Notre Dame, he was an active member of the Glee Club. He graduated in 1950 and received his law degree from Loyola University in 1962. Mr. McGrath retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1991 after 12 years, and was a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish.

He was past president of the Notre Dame Club of Southeastern Virginia, past president of the Virginia Tax Executive Institute, president-elect of the Mary Immaculate Auxiliary, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5480 and the Chicago Tax Club. He was a volunteer at Mary Immaculate Hospital and prepared tax returns for retired persons through the AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mona M. McGrath; children, Raymond McGrath and wife, Patricia Murer, Therese McGrath, Margaret and Bruce Laubach, Kathleen McGrath, John and Karen McGrath, Janet McGrath, and Mark McGrath and fiancee, Anissa White; grandson, Robert B.W. Laubach III; and sisters, Frances Coombs, Norine McGrath and Marion Stuebe. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Margaret McGrath.

The family will receive visitors at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church starting at 5:30 p.m. today. The funeral mass will begin at 7:30 p.m. today. Thursday the funeral procession will begin at the church at 9:35 a.m. for a 10 a.m. graveside service at Peninsula Memorial Park. Peninsula Funeral Home in charge. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetic Association.
