Leonard Edward Cox Jr., age 73, of 103 Red Point Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 1995, in Hillhaven-Nansemond Nursing Home, Suffolk.
He was a native of Isle of Wight County, and a retired contractor. Mr. Cox was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Smithfield, American Legion - George F. Dashiell, Post (NU)49, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Alene Alphin Cox; one son, L. Hill Cox of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Sharon C. Lenz of Smithfield; four grandchildren, Zachary Cox of Virginia Beach, Nathan Cox of Virginia Beach, Phillip Lenz of Smithfield, and Rebecca Lenz of Smithfield.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jay Ashby and the Rev. Ruffin Alphin officiating. Burial will be at St. Lukes Memorial Park, Smithfield. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 117, Smithfield, Va. 23431, or Trinity United Methodist Church, Air Conditioner Fund, 201 Cedar St., Smithfield, Va. 23430.
