Sophia E. Butler, 94, a resident of the Brookridge Retirement Home in Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 1995.
She was a native of Bertie County, a member of the Lewiston Baptist Church, and the daughter of the late K.C. and Esther Cherry Butler. Ms. Butler graduated from Lewiston-Woodville High School and after graduation worked as a telephone operator in the Lewiston central office. She then worked as a beautician in Windsor with the late Maggie Sitterson. After retirement she served as housemother for girls at the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh and then at the Kennedy Home in Kinston.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hoggard Memorial Cemetery, Lewiston, by the Rev. Blake Hays. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Lewiston Baptist Church, Lewiston, N.C. 27849.
