MANAGED CARE PUTS PATIENT SECOND

Regarding ``Managed care is managed neglect'' (letter, July 22): How sad it is that a dentist must come forward to depict the poor state of affairs we have regarding our health-care system.

Nothing is wrong with our health care, as it still remains the finest in the world. Unfortunately and most disheartening, physicians and other health-care providers have allowed themselves to be enslaved by a bureaucratic system designed primarily to benefit the economic interests of medical networks, HMO, PPO and other managed-care organizations. This relegates the physician and his patients' health care to a low priority.

It is obvious that managed care must be replaced by a system that would enable the patient to be treated by a physician of his choice and give the physician freedom to direct and administer good health care.

Physicians and patients should wake up and take charge of their health care. Stop acting like sheep and start roaring like a lion!
