Evelyn Edith Brittain Jochens, 81, of the 6100 Block of Lockamy Ln., died August 9, 1995, at home. Mrs. Jochens had participated in a special cancer research program that was conducted by the U.S. Navy in 1952.
Mrs. Jochens was the widow of Robert J. Jochens, Sr. and was born in Asheville, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brittain. She had worked for Portsmouth Floral for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy B. Wright; a step-son, Robert J. Jochens, both of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, James Guy Jochens of Swansboro, N.C., John R. Jochens and Candy C. Jochens, both of Norfolk; Deborah J. Hand, Robert J. Jochens III, and Jeffery W. Jochens, all of Chesapeake; six great-grandchildren, Jason and Chad Jochens of Swansboro, N.C., Brian Persinski of Illinois, Stephanie, Rachel and Amanda Hand of Chesapeake. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Mary B. Jochens of Norfolk.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 1995, in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, by the Rev. Allen Dooley. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m.
