ON FRIDAY, THE FISH WERE THERE IN NUMBERS FOR SOME GOOD CATCHING

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was pretty good on Friday. Kitty Hawk Pier reported a lot of spot, some croaker and a few mullet landed during the afternoon.

On Avalon Pier, spot, small blues and croaker were decked. Spot and croaker were plentiful on Nags Head Pier late in the afternoon.

On Jennette's Pier, anglers caught plenty of spot when the tide started rising around 4 p.m. Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier landed lots of spot.

In addition, some keeper speckled trout were taken on fresh shrimp.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported blues, spot and sheepshead landed.

A few spot and croaker were taken from Avon Pier. Fishing was good on Frisco Pier during the morning, with spot, blues, mullet and gray trout landed.

Surfcasters along the northern beaches caught some nice-sized spot and a few sea mullet on the incoming tide Friday.

Although the surf was rough south of Oregon Inlet, some big croaker and a few spot were beached.

At Cape Point, a few blues were landed early Friday morning. Along the beach in the Hatteras Inlet area, some Spanish mackerel, blues, croaker and small flounder were taken.

Plenty of Spanish mackerel and scattered bluefish were landed by charters trolling just inside of Oregon Inlet. Headboat fishing in the area was slow.

Most bluewater charters off Oregon Inlet returned early from fishing Friday due to increasingly rough seas. Some white marlin and dolphin were taken by the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center fleet before trips were cut short.

The Suspense out of Pirate's Cove released two white marlin and the Tar Heel released two sailfish.

Seas also were rough off Hatteras Island, which put a damper on Gulf Stream action. Scattered dolphin, tuna and wahoo were taken. A blue marlin was released by the Fin Fantasy.

Water temperature at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 73.5 degrees on Friday. by CNB
