A 21-month-old child was in critical condition late Friday after being pulled from a swimming pool at a home in the Princess Anne Plaza section of the city.
Tony Cheatham of the 1500 block of Garland Way was initially taken to the Trauma Center at Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was later transferred to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk.
Police said the boy was in the care of his grandmother at a home in the 3400 block of Stancil St. at the time of the incident.
Members of the family had just finished dinner in the home and were cleaning up when the boy was discovered missing. He was found in the above-ground swimming pool outside.
The grandmother was attempting to resuscitate the boy when police officers C.G. Mras and T.D. Talbot arrived and took over the effort until paramedics arrived. by CNB
