A 19-year-old woman who pleaded guilty last year to fatally shooting a South Carolina man after a would-be robbery has been sentenced to 81 years in prison.
Sareya D. Matthews pleaded guilty March 1, 1994, to first-degree murder, robbery and two firearms charges in the shooting death of Keith Pinckmey, 29, of Lobeco, S.C. She faced up to two life sentences plus eight years on the charges.
On Thursday, Circuit Court Judge Robert W. Stewart sentenced Matthews to 70 years in prison for the murder, five years for the robbery and a total of six years for the two firearms charges.
The charges stemmed from the Sept. 20, 1993, fatal shooting outside a 7-Eleven store in the 6900 block of N. Military Highway and a robbery that occurred in the 1600 block of Brambleton Ave. earlier that night.
