WHY ``GOODSPEED''?

I recently spent several days visiting a friend who lives in Virginia Beach and found the entire area to be beautiful and stimulating. Having recently seen the Disney film ``Pocahontas,'' I was interested in visiting Jamestown, which we did.

Upon returning to my friend's home, I noticed something which piqued my curiosity: Only two of the three roads near her home named after the ships sailed by John Smith's party - the Susan Constant and the Discovery - match the names of the ships.

The third ship - the Godspeed - seems to have been altered to ``Goodspeed'' when the Virginia Beach signs went up. I'm curious if this was purposeful or was just an oversight in the sign shop?
