Perhaps the most unusual baseball backstop in the city is on the St.
Andrew's United Methodist Church field off Elmhurst Lane in
Portsmouth. Through the years, vines and flowers have made their way
to the top of the backstop, which was erected in 1968. Little
League teams who secure permission from the church to use it as a
practice field have placed a webbing over the lower portion of the
backstop. And everybody continues to have a blooming good time.
