A 26-year-old New York City man was missing and presumed to have drowned after he fell off a boogie board while swimming at the Oceanfront.
A friend of the missing man and at least one other witness said he slipped from the board, went underwater and did not resurface.
The name of the man was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
The incident occurred about 3:05 p.m. off 19th Street. A search was launched with lifeguards, the police marine and air patrols, rescue personnel and Coast Guard crews. The search was called off at 5 p.m.
