What a shame that your readers have been discouraged by your reviewer from reading Mary Lee Settle's new novel, Choices (Books, July 23).
This beautifully crafted story sweeps the reader up into the defining conflicts of our time. It reinforced my belief in idealism and selflessness.
How many modern novels, loaded as they are with gruesome detail and despair, leave us feeling hopeful? Not many. Perhaps your reviewer is too young to remember when we had heroes.
