PURSUIT ENDS IN FATAL CRASH

A car being chased by police crashed into a light pole at an intersection on Warwick Boulevard on Monday, killing the driver and injuring a passenger.

The driver, Rashawn Clark, 20, of the 500 block of Reddick Road, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Sean Rainey, 20, of the 900 block of Red Oak Circle, was listed in serious condition Monday evening after undergoing surgery at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

The car was being pursued because Rainey was wanted by police on maiming, drug and larceny charges.

Police stopped the car, a blue Honda Accord, at the intersection of Warwick Boulevard and Old Courthouse Way at 12:43 p.m., according to a police spokesperson.

When officers attempted to approach the Honda, it sped off. Minutes later, it hit another car at Warwick and Thorncliff Drive and then crashed into a light pole.

The occupants of the other car were not injured.

Large amounts of marijuana, cocaine and cash were found in the car, according to the police spokesperson.
