SPARTANS' OPENER AGAINST VIRGINIA STATE ON TV

Norfolk State University's season opener against Virginia State in the Labor Day Classic at Foreman Field will be one of two CIAA games televised nationally this season on Prime Network.

Locally, WVBT-TV will air the game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. WVBT is the sister station of WAVY-TV.

WAVY sports director Bruce Rader confirmed that WVBT, currently limited to local cable affiliates, will be a free air station by September, airing on Channel 43.

Prime Network reaches approximately 45 million homes and is seen in the region on Home Team Sports, SportSouth and Sunshine Network. Prime Network is also scheduled to telecast the Carolina Classic, which pits Winston-Salem State and North Carolina Central on Oct. 14.

``We are currently considering two others,'' said Sam Smith of Sunbelt Video, which will produce the games for Prime. ``But right now we feel good about having two games that include the top four teams in the (CIAA's) preseason poll.''
