ALICE V. CHAPMAN

Alice Virginia Chapman, 61, of the 4000 block of Sun Valley Crescent, died Aug. 12, 1995, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.

Mrs. Chapman, a retired nurse, worked for Portsmouth Naval Hospital for 21 years. She was born in Norfolk County, Churchland. She was a member of Grove Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Howard Chapman Sr. of Chesapeake; three sons, Maj. Thomas H. Chapman Jr., U.S. Army, of Atlanta, Michael A. Chapman of Hampton, and David L. Chapman of Patterson, N.Y.; three brothers, Olice Elliott and Edward Elliott, both of Portsmouth, and Bobby Elliott of Brandon, Fla.; four grandchildren, Michael Chapman Jr. and Kristina Chapman, both of Hampton, Sherri Chapman and Tiffany Chapman, both of Atlanta; four aunts, Martha Cotton, Fannie M. Overton, Sarah Riddick, all of Portsmouth, Dorothy Gantz of Virginia Beach; three daughters-in-law, Peggy Chapman of Hampton, Antoinette Chapman of Atlanta, and Rainey Chapman of Patterson, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Virgie Elliott, and her father, Lawrence James Jr.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Grove Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Melvin O. Marriner, M. Div., D. Min. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at noon on Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to the Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
