ELSIE A. SCOTT

Elsie A. Scott, 82, died Aug. 12, 1995 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Scott, the widow of Samuel Scott, was a life-time member of Greater Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church. She was an original deaconess, on te female usher board (NU)2, president of the stewardess board (NU)2, missionary society, and former secretary of the Dorcas Chapter (NU)50 O.E.S. She was a member of the Salvation Army, Norfolk.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara W. Crews of New Jersey, Eula Joyce W. Brabble of Chesapeake; one son, Clarence L. Whitehurst of Norfolk; one brother, James Smith of North Carolina; two aunts, Minnie Smith of Norfolk, Vivian Bond of New York; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Asa H. Crews Jr. of New Jersey; one brother-in-law, Harmon Brown of California; one daughter-in-law, Vanessa Whitehurst of Norfolk; 16 nephews; 15 nieces; two stepsons; and church family; and a host of other friends and relatives.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Greater Metropolitan A.M.E.Z. Church, Brambleton Avenue, Norfolk, by the Rev. Thomas E. Tucker Jr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Pretlow and Sons' Funeral Home, Chesapeake, in charge. There will be an informal wake from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
