PIER FISHING GOOD DESPITE ROUGH WATERS

Although seas were a little rough on Tuesday, bottom fishing on piers along the Northern Beaches was excellent. Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught nice size spot throughout the day. Spot, sea mullet, croakers and pigfish were taken during the morning on Avalon Pier. Afternoon action was good with spot landed two at a time. On Nags Head Pier spot and croaker were taken at a steady rate. Jennett's Pier reported good catches of spot along with a few croaker. On Outer Banks pier, spot, mullet and flounder were taken.

Surf fishing was difficult along the northern beaches and south of the inlet due to a big swell and strong running tide. A few bottom fish were taken from deeper sloughs and around the inlet during the morning.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was fair with a few small blues and spanish mackerel landed west of the Bonner Bridge. Headboats concentrated their efforts in the Manns Harbor area where big croakers, pigfish and a few blues were taken.

Trout fishing in the Wanchese area behind Duck Island was excellent during most of the morning.

Some speckled trout and puppy drum were also landed in the Off Island Channel behind Bodie Island lighthouse. Inshore and offshore fishing should be good when seas subside after the passage of Hurricane Felix. Water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers' Duck Pier was 77 degrees on Tuesday. by CNB
