The District No. 2 Council of the Order of Eastern Star of Virginia recently donated $1,000 to Norfolk Community Hospital. Elaine Harrison is president of the organization.
Dr. Ira Gould of Norfolk attended the Reserve Officers Association's 69th annual convention June 28 through July 1 in Des Moines, Iowa. Gould, a dental officer in the Navy, assisted in making decisions about the 102,000-member ROA programs, projects and positions and discussed legislative strategies relating to national security.
Drs. Steven M. Ackerman and Johnnie A. Lee have joined the medical staff of NDC Medical Center, a Sentara Medical Group.
Ackerman attended Eastern Virginia Medical School where he received his M.D. in 1990. He is board certified in internal medicine. Lee attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine where he received is M.D. in 1989. Lee is also board certified in internal medicine.
CAMPUS NOTES
Lenette D. Hillian, daughter of Leonard Hillian of Norfolk, received the Senior Award for Excellence in Service from the Department of Family and Child Development in the College of Human Resources at Virginia Tech.
Hillian, a 1990 graduate of Lake Taylor High School, is a member of the Golden Key, Phi Upsilon Omicron and Kappa Omicron Nu national honor societies and the Society of African-American Scholars. She also received the National Collegiate Minority Leadership Award.
Robert Moore, son of Brenda Carper of Norfolk, made the dean's list at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, a college of Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y.
Elizabeth Beals of Norfolk recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.
