The Virginia Retirement System said investment performance for the fiscal year ended June 30 grew to a market value of $18.8 billion, with a total return on investments of 17.1 percent for the fiscal year. The fund grew by $2.8 billion in market value for the year. It was the best performance since fiscal 1986, when the fund posted a 29.2 percent return on investments. The VRS bond portfolio returned 13.5 percent for the fiscal year. VRS is the ninth-largest public and 32nd-largest public or private pension fund in the United States It ranks 52nd on the list of the largest 300 public or private pension funds internationally. by CNB
