GRANBY QB COMMITS TO PLAY AT PENN STATE

Granby's Anthony King became the first area football player to announce his college choice this season when he gave an an oral commitment to Penn State on Tuesday night.

King also considered Virginia Tech and North Carolina State.

``It wasn't a difficult decision,'' he said about picking Penn State. ``I've gone to camp there the past three summers and took my recruiting visit on Aug. 5.

``I love the whole atmosphere. I feel like I know the coaches and I'll be in good hands.''

King said he has qualified academically for freshman eligibility.

King started at cornerback for Granby as a sophomore and will play quarterback and defensive back this season.

``I don't care where I play,'' he said. ``It's all football and I love football.''

King also plays basketball and runs track. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds at Penn State and placed fifth in the high jump at 6 feet, 4 inches and sixth in the long jump at 22-6 at the state meet in June. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
